What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a child manages attention, activity levels and impulse control. It can influence focus, organisation and emotional regulation, which may impact learning and everyday life.

Every young person with ADHD is unique — and with the right strategies and support, they can feel more confident in themselves and better equipped to thrive at home, in school and in the wider world.

How do we assess?

Our ADHD assessments are designed to build a full understanding of a child’s experiences at home, at school and in daily life. The process typically includes:

  • A developmental history with parents or carers.
  • A diagnostic interview (Young DIVA-5) with the child.
  • A diagnostic discussion to agree next steps and recommendations.

This approach ensures that every perspective is considered, leading to an accurate diagnosis and clear guidance for future support.

Where both Autism and ADHD are being explored, the assessment includes:

  • A developmental history with parents or carers
  • An ADOS-2 with the child or young person
  • A Young DIVA-5 diagnostic interview
  • A final diagnostic discussion with our clinical team

What happens after an ADHD assessment?

Following the assessment, families receive a detailed report outlining the findings and recommendations. This may include strategies to support attention, organisation and emotional regulation, as well as advice for school and home. Where appropriate, we provide a formal diagnosis to help guide Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or access to specialist support.
