What are Psychological Services?

Our psychological services support children and young people who may be experiencing emotional, social, behavioural or learning difficulties.

Delivered by experienced counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists, we provide a safe space for children to explore their feelings, while also offering structured assessments that help identify specific needs.

Whether through ongoing counselling and psychotherapy or targeted educational psychology assessments, our aim is to reduce barriers to education and promote long-term wellbeing.

What do we assess?

Our assessments can explore:

  • Learning needs (such as cognitive strengths and difficulties).
  • Emotional and behavioural challenges, including anxiety, low mood and social difficulties.
  • Mental health support needs, identifying when additional therapeutic intervention may help.
  • School-related difficulties, including emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and persistent absenteeism.
  • Family or environmental factors that may affect a child’s ability to access education.

What happens in a session?

Sessions are designed to be supportive and child-centred. A child may meet with a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist for one-to-one work, using conversation, play or creative activities to explore their thoughts and feelings. Our specialists adapt their approach depending on the child’s age, needs and preferred way of communicating. Parents, carers and teachers are often involved in the process to ensure strategies can be reinforced at home and in school.
